St. George Bakery takes Finnish cinnamon buns to Japan – to be featured in a prestigious Christmas market

St. George Bakery, the in-house bakery-café of Hotel St. George, has been given the honour of representing the Finnish baking tradition in Japan. The bakery has been invited to participate in the Nordic Fair Christmas market at the prestigious JR Nagoya Takashimaya department store in Nagoya. At the event, St. George Bakery will showcase and sell its iconic cinnamon buns (korvapuusti), baked with the bakery's beloved recipe that combines tradition with a modern twist.

The Christmas Market attracts thousands of visitors and St. George Bakery is looking forward to sharing the flavours of Finland and the Nordic Christmas spirit with Japanese foodies. This is also an opportunity to promote Finnish bakery culture internationally – the cinnamon bun is ready to conquer new hearts!

"It's amazing to be able to bring our baked goods to such an exciting event. For us, the cinnamon bun symbolises cosy warmth and shared moments, and we hope that this will also be sensed by our Japanese visitors," says Laura Kinnula, Restaurant Manager at Hotel St. George.

St. George Bakery opened in spring 2018 at Hotel St. George in Yrjönkatu, Helsinki. The café-bakery's freshly baked breads and pastries and varied food offerings have become very popular with both neighbourhood residents and hotel guests.

The prestigious JR Nagoya Takashimaya department store, carrying premium and luxury brands, was established in the JR Central Towers building at Nagoya's main railway station in 2000. In addition to the flagship store, they have four other stores in the Nagoya area.

The St. George Bakery pop-up will be open at the JR Nagoya Takashimaya department store's Nordic Fair Christmas market from 5 to 12 December 2024.
