Art exhibition at St. George Bakery
Parallel Curated by BOM
The second Curated by BOM exhibition in St. George Bakery is called PARALLEL.
It reflects parallelism, the living of multiple parallel lives, synergy, impermanence and change. The works in the exhibition consist of visual art, sculpture and design.
The exhibition is curated by Piia Jalkanen, Päivi Keski-Pomppu and Anna Pirkola. In addition to their own works, Studio Bom's Pietu Arvola, Anniina Dunder-Berg, Kirsi Enkovaara, Charlotta Munsterhjelm and Joel Sipilä are also represented. The amazing artist Laura Annala has been invited as a guest artist. All works in the exhibition are available for sale and can be requested directly from the artists.
You are warmly welcome to visit the exhibition during the opening hours of St. George Bakery and meet the artists at the opening on 24 April from 5 to 7 pm.
Get to know the artists
Laura Annala is an artist who lives and works in Lapua. In her mind, everyday still lifes turn into colourful and rich works with a story, time and place. Who has chosen the flowers and what do they want to communicate?
"Through art, I am able to address the human relationship with nature, its fragility and dignity - the importance of small moments and gestures. In this moment and time, nature's way of recreating itself year after year seems comforting. Flowers and plants have the superpower to bring good cheer to those around them. I hope my art brings the same joy and comfort to its viewers."
In addition to painting, Laura has designed home textiles and furniture fabrics. Her art has been made into a clothing collection, and in the spring of 2025, the "Blossom" pendant designed by Annala for the Friends of Finnish Crafts was released.

Piia Jalkanen is an interior architect, designer and teacher. She teaches secondary school art students, works on multidisciplinary projects and develops her own artistic work. In recent years, she has worked in particular with exhibition architecture and her own art and design. The materials he works with are mainly wood and ceramics.

Päivi Keski-Pomppu is a designer, interior architect and goldsmith. Her curiosity to understand the unique nature of different materials and her desire to deepen her knowledge in different scales and details of design provide Keski-Pompu with endless inspiration. Craftsmanship is deeply rooted in his design identity and shapes his thinking in many ways.
In Keski-Pompu's minimalist jewellery, every little detail is considered. The jewellery is inspired by influences from art, ideas born from experimentation, and the silence of nature and its harshness.

Anna Pirkola is a multidisciplinary designer who works naturally with different materials, spaces and forms of expression. She is an enthusiast and experimenter for whom design is above all a means to think, connect and develop.
Textile art and especially weaving are at the heart of her work. Pirkola is fascinated by how simple materials can be used to create new, shape-shifting forms of expression. Pirkola is interested in stretching the technical boundaries of weaving and taking an experimental approach. This is evident in the Parallel exhibition, for example in the way the structural laws of weaving are left visible in the works.

Jalkanen, Keski-Pomppu and Pirkola have together curated the works for the exhibition and collaborated to create their three joint series of works. The works combine materials that are specific to them, such as different types of wood, red clay and textiles. The objects, created as a dialogue between hard and soft, are wall-mounted works of art, sculptures.
Pietu Arvola is a Helsinki-based sound and media artist. In addition to experimental sound art and music, he works with video art and animation, using and combining several techniques. Parallel features her ceramic art, which is experimental, norm-questioning and rich in expression.

Anniina Dunder-Berg is a visual artist and graphic designer with a background in jewellery design. She works mainly with dry pastels, gouache and oil paintings, enjoying exploring the dynamics of lines. The works included in Dunder-Berg's exhibition, Bird Tower I & II, were created in collaboration with dance artist Katriina Kantola. Their collaborative multi-artistic duet performance, Kaarrellen, kahlaten - Wheeling, wading, combines visual art and contemporary dance. The work is based on structured improvisation, with the theme of the surrounding nature and bird species. Kantola explores the essence of birds and their species-specific ways of being in the world. At the same time, Dunder-Berg observes Kantola's body language and draws based on his observations. The movement crystallises into abstract images.
