How a sleep consultation will help you maximise recovery
Sleep is one of the essential pillars of holistic well-being. In the midst of our busy lives it’s increasingly challenging to get not only enough sleep but also sleep of good enough quality. Sleep Lab – Sleep Consultation at Hotel St. George may be exactly what we need in order to overcome this challenge.
We asked Linda Ekholm, Head of Wellbeing Experiences at the hotel, to explain how the sleep consultation works and what it can tell you about the way you sleep.
Emfit sleep monitor tracks the body’s recovery
Hotel St. George takes pride in its high-quality beds by Swedish Dux, which were chosen to tempt visitors to get maximum rest during their stay.
At the guest’s request, these beds can also be equipped with the innovative Emfit sleep monitor, a Finnish device that tracks the body’s physical and mental recovery during the night.
It creates graphs about the different sleep stages, heart rate, and breathing rate. The next day, the results can be analysed in a personal sleep consultation.
- The results serve to highlight how important sleep really is. Regular exercise and eating well aren’t enough if you don’t sleep well, Linda Ekholm argues.
All set for the day’s challenges
One of the most important values tracked by the sleep monitor is heart rate variation, as it illustrates the activity of the parasympathetic nervous system.
- The parasympathetic nervous system must be active during the night for us to recover properly, Ekholm highlights.
The heart rate variability value comes out positive if the body has recovered effectively from the day before. Generally, a higher value implies good health and fitness. A negative value, signifying insufficient recovery, may result from too much exertion or stress.
The results of the sleep consultation can show when it’s time to slow down and train with less intensity, for instance.
A sleep consultation is for everyone
A sleep consultation is useful for anyone who’s interested in their personal well-being. It’s particularly beneficial to individuals who enjoy regular exercise or whose busy lives are taking a toll on their energy levels.
- Most of us would certainly benefit from a sleep consultation in this day and age. I recommend it to all those people who find it hard to open their eyes in the morning, or who suffer from brain fog or lack of energy, Ekholm says.
